QAD Application Architecture Foundation
At the foundation of QAD’s application architecture sits the core business logic engine. The core engine has been developed to allow access to all functions and data via QAD’s Service Oriented Architecture.
QAD extended modules connect to the core business logic using QXtend, QAD’s Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) suite. QXtend also allows simple integration to other applications, data sources and can call or connect to web services. Using QXtend, all business functions are accessible via a suite of open and published Application Programming Interfaces (API’s).
QXtend supports multiple instances of QAD Enterprise Applications and remote connections to other data sources or web services. QXtend can connect via an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) such as Progress Sonic, and can coexist with other existing middleware strategies such as IBM’s MQ or Tivoli.
QAD’s application architecture foundation makes QAD Enterprise Applications simple to integrate with, as well as allowing deployment and upgrade of any QAD components.
QAD Enterprise Applications have been built to run on most contemporary computer architectures, supporting commercial UNIX environments including HP/UX, AIX and Solaris, many LINUX environments and Microsoft Windows Server system.
QAD Enterprise Applications support a variety of databases depending on client requirements for specific components of the suite. Databases supported include Progress OpenEdge and Oracle RDBMS..
When companies deploy solutions globally they will often find a need to have separate instances of the application in locations where telecommunications costs and reliability make a centralized instance impractical. QAD Enterprise Applications feature a unique deployment architecture called Shared Service Domains (SSD), designed to allow the computer infrastructure to be separated from the application configuration and business deployment. QAD SSD allows QAD Enterprise Applications to be configured so that different locations and business entities can be attached to different application instances, but those application instances operate as a single virtual application.
QAD’s architecture allows different languages, local configurations and business rules to be simply configured or reconfigured, as the business needs change. QAD SSD makes it easy to add additional instances or virtual entities as the business grows or changes without the constraints of older monolithic applications architectures.
