QAD Manufacturing Industry Focus

QAD delivers solutions that focus on the needs of companies in specific manufacturing industries: automotive, consumer products, food & beverage, discrete products, configured products and life sciences. QAD develops products and services to address industry specific needs by working collaboratively with leading global manufacturers and industry bodies, and through research.

Our industry focus allows QAD to deliver solutions tailored to the needs of manufacturers in our focus industries.

In each of our vertical markets, QAD takes an active role with industry groups and standards bodies to ensure that we embrace new manufacturing practices, provide innovative solutions to give our customers a competitive advantage and deliver capabilities to address regulatory compliance.

We engage with every one of our customers in an annual business review process to determine their current and future challenges. As part of this engagement, we present a Vision analysis identifying how, we believe, we can enhance their business processes and assist them in achieving their goals.

The result of QAD’s attention to specific industry requirements is a suite of solutions, which more rapidly responds to industry requirements, and more precisely addresses customer requirements than broader, less-focused applications.

QAD Enterprise Applications
QAD Enterprise Applications is a complete suite to support the needs of global manufacturers. QAD Enterprise Applications consists of functional suites, which address business processes. The suite includes:

Enterprise Financials: Addresses complex regulatory requirements, strict segregation of duties, and more controls as required by larger, more complex enterprises; includes sophisticated budget modeling capabilities, advanced reporting, multiple reporting layers that simplify complex Multi-GAAP reporting requirements and enhanced audit capabilities.

Standard Financials: Addresses typical needs of globally operated manufacturing companies. It allows manufacturers to gain important benefits by streamlining financial processes from planning, to recording, to reporting and complying.

Customer Management: Provides improved responsiveness through collaboration and management of customers and demand

Manufacturing: Enables companies to reduce costs and increase throughput using the latest manufacturing scheduling techniques, including the capability to support lean principles

Supply Chain: Helps companies improve management of supply and suppliers through real-time collaboration

Service and Support: Provides the capability for after-sale service and support. Manages warranty tracking, services calls, and returns and repairs

Enterprise Asset Management: Supports all plant maintenance activities, including preventive maintenance and predictive management, work orders and service requests to ensure equipment is reliable and ready to go at all times, and to ensure compliance with regulatory mandates regarding product safety and cleanliness standards.

Analytics: Helps companies analyze data to measure business performance in key areas

Interoperability: Allows database portability and operating system flexibility, and works with QAD QXtend application-to-application (A2A) integration toolset that enables enterprise applications to interoperate with the complete QAD Enterprise Application suite without coding. QXtend serves as the "adapter" between QAD and other enterprise applications, automating critical tasks such as data synchronization, and eliminates the burden of maintaining custom interfaces and manual data entry.

System Performance: Performance Monitoring Framework provides the capability to pre-actively monitor system performance and take action to prevent or correct any issues that may affect optimum performance. Business Process Manager allows for simple configuration of business processes and associated workflows.

Application Foundation
QAD has been developing business software solutions since 1979. During this time there have been significant developments in both the requirements of customers and available technologies to support software applications. QAD has a philosophy of embracing new technologies as they emerge to make our products easier to use, faster to deploy and simpler to support. This, combined with a focus on constant functional evolution, has resulted in the architecture of QAD’s products today.

QAD applications feature a solid and robust foundation using a Service Oriented Architecture, a simple and configurable core application architecture to support global deployment, and an intuitive and attractive user interface.

QAD Application Architecture Foundation
At the foundation of QAD’s application architecture sits the core business logic engine. The core engine has been developed to allow access to all functions and data via QAD’s Service Oriented Architecture.

QAD extended modules connect to the core business logic using QXtend, QAD’s Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) suite. QXtend also allows simple integration to other applications, data sources and can call or connect to web services. Using QXtend, all business functions are accessible via a suite of open and published Application Programming Interfaces (API’s).

QXtend supports multiple instances of QAD Enterprise Applications and remote connections to other data sources or web services. QXtend can connect via an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) such as Progress Sonic, and can coexist with other existing middleware strategies such as IBM’s MQ or Tivoli.

QAD’s application architecture foundation makes QAD Enterprise Applications simple to integrate with, as well as allowing deployment and upgrade of any QAD components.

Hardware/Operating Systems
QAD Enterprise Applications have been built to run on most contemporary computer architectures, supporting commercial UNIX environments including HP/UX, AIX and Solaris, many LINUX environments and Microsoft Windows Server system.

QAD Enterprise Applications support a variety of databases depending on client requirements for specific components of the suite. Databases supported include Progress OpenEdge and Oracle RDBMS..

Deployment Independence
When companies deploy solutions globally they will often find a need to have separate instances of the application in locations where telecommunications costs and reliability make a centralized instance impractical. QAD Enterprise Applications feature a unique deployment architecture called Shared Service Domains (SSD), designed to allow the computer infrastructure to be separated from the application configuration and business deployment. QAD SSD allows QAD Enterprise Applications to be configured so that different locations and business entities can be attached to different application instances, but those application instances operate as a single virtual application.

QAD’s architecture allows different languages, local configurations and business rules to be simply configured or reconfigured, as the business needs change. QAD SSD makes it easy to add additional instances or virtual entities as the business grows or changes without the constraints of older monolithic applications architectures.

For most software users, a product's user interface (UI) has the biggest influence on a customer's overall impression of a product. The design of a user interface affects the amount of effort the user must expend to provide input for the system and to interpret the output of the system, and how much effort it takes to learn how to do this. A well designed user interface makes the process of using the system effective, efficient, and satisfying.

QAD has several types of user interfaces for the different environments where QAD Applications are used:

  • Office Users - QAD .NET UI is Microsoft's latest .NET technology as the foundation for the feature rich user interface and is designed for usability and end user empowerment. It delivers the flexibility that users expect from their applications in an intuitive and easy to use design. New users quickly learn how to use QAD's applications, and existing QAD users become more efficient with this improved user experience.
  • Shop Floor Users - Character terminal data entry, provides the most productive form of heads down data entry for frequently used data application functions, and for integration with character based devices such as barcode readers.
  • Field Users - Microsoft Windows mobile interface provides a standard, intuitive interface to support handheld devices, PDA, Laptops and Tablet PCs often used with our QAD Mobile Field Service product.
  • Web Users - Browser based interface, provides access for customers or suppliers outside the enterprise for collaboration applications like QAD Supply Chain Portal, QAD Customer Self Service and QAD Demand Management.
  • EDI Users – QAD provides all the tools to connect directly to electronic forms of data input using QXtend.

QAD's User Interfaces are all built with user customization in mind. Whether you want to control access to data by role, configure screens adding or removing fields or rearrange windows within a workspace to match business process or preference, this can be easily accomplished.

Additionally, for more far reaching customizations, the QAD Integrated Customization Toolkit enables you to design and develop customizations in a non-intrusive way, which means you eliminate or limit the change of the original standard applications. As a result, your custom development will be faster to create and will reduce your support costs, while retaining high quality standards.

The Value of QAD's User Interface

  • Improved user experience with QAD Enterprise Applications
  • Powerful customer customization
  • Reduced customer training time
  • Great integration with Microsoft Office applications
  • Allows easy deployment and update

QAD .NET UI’s familiar look and feel reduces user training while increasing users experience
